Trip Report

Mowich Lake Snowshoe — Saturday, Jun. 27, 2020

Mount Rainier Area > NW - Carbon River/Mowich

First of all, Mowich Lake road is atrocious! It is the worse I have ever seen it. Pot holes were everywhere.  We made it up to the Paul Peak trail head parking area a little before the gate closure (it took us a good 30min on Mowich Lake road to reach it). Bathrooms were open there and in good condition.  We brought our bikes and the plan was to bike the rest of the way to Mowich Lake. 2.5 miles in we reached large sections of snow on the road. We eventually tied our bikes to a tree and hiked the rest of the way. We were shocked to see how much snow is still up there. I later read something online that mt rainier had 144% of snowpack this year. Pictures  are at Mowich lake campground area. I would say there is 4ft of snow there .
