Trip Report

Gillette Ridge — Friday, Jun. 5, 2020

Eastern Washington

Started from Rogers Mountain TH and ended on the Clugston Onion Creek TH just about 13 miles in total.

The trail begins steady climbing up to Rogers Mountain after the first 2 miles it levels out a bit, along the trail wild flowers are in full bloom & with Dominion, Abercrombie and a few other mountains as the backdrop it’s definitely a beautiful hike!

Several animal tracks and scat (Moose, cougar, bear) were found on the trail so just be aware of your surroundings. I did come across two small ponds of water however with the mine being close by I figured I would just ration what I had brought with me, I have drank from cow ponds and awful pools of marshy liquid goo but decided in this case it might be best to hold out.

The old fire lookout has some cement pillars left Including a cable tie or two , other than the amazing viewpoint to stop for lunch nothing else remains.

The trail is in pretty good condition (B+) there are several blow downs which is to be expected on any trail as a hiker you shouldn’t have any problems maneuvering over under or around them, Motorcycles and bicyclists may have a bit of a hard time.

If you haven’t been on this trail before now is a great time to go and enjoy the day or evening as several old campsites remain...next time I think I’ll bring a hammock and spend some hang time on the ridge.

Happy Hiking y’all 👣
