I had to go into the Valley to get a tire repaired after finding a nail embedded in it, but decided to make the best of the situation by visiting the Dishman Hills for a run at the same time. The wildflowers are still gorgeous, but the grass widows are already beginning to fade.
I saw a few others out enjoying the trail system, including some friends I haven't seen in awhile. Everyone maintained great social distance. My pup helped with that as usual, as I always have his leash length separating me from everyone else.
We ran a big loop starting and ending at Camp Caro:
First we ran Deep Ravine, which was completely dry! Sometimes in the spring it can be quite wet or even have several inches of standing water. Today was great, and no mud to speak of. From Deep Ravine we crossed the footbridge at Goldback Spring and took the wooden steps up, skipping the full Goldback Spring loop in favor of heading toward Eagle Peak. After taking the spur trail to the summit of Eagle Peak, we continued west past Lost Pond on the way to Nimbus Knob. Then we took most of the East/West Pond Loop by dropping down nearly to the 8th Ave. TH before climbing back up to the junction with the Pinecliff Loop, which we took south to Enchanted Ravine. From there we went back to Camp Caro, a distance of exactly 5 miles. The pup has been sleeping ever since, so a very successful outing despite the nail in my tire to kick things off!
