Great Sunday afternoon hike, as we noticed that the weather report said the sun would be breaking through the clouds by 2pm. It did just that right as we got to the summit at 1,500ft elevation, so we enjoyed the view of North Bend for about half an hour before heading home.
We drove past the overflow lot and went to the main parking lot at the trailhead at 2:45pm. We only had to wait a few minutes for someone leaving the trail to vacate a spot for us - one advantage to doing a weekend hike on a busy trail in the afternoon instead of mid-morning. We did the roughly 4 mile hike in just over 2.5 hours total, with a moving time of just under 2 hours.
This is a good hike for kids starting out on the trails who are ready to take a step up from your 2 mile stroll in the park, and we saw a number of families out there yesterday. Beautiful views, moderate distance and relatively low elevation gain. We brought our little dog Winston & kept him on a leash.
