Hiking Trautman Ranch Conservation Area - East Loop

During winter 2025-2026, Riverside State Park conducted a pilot program to gauge the interest for a loanable all-terrain wheelchair. Interest was high, and they hope to obtain a track chair in the future. With that in mind, some of the trails in the Trautman Ranch Conservation Area are designated for track chairs, including most of the route described here.

Begin the hike on the paved Spokane River Centennial Trail, heading northeast. At 0.3 mile, just before the paved trail makes a hairpin turn, take the dirt path on the left into a forest of pines and firs. Watch for the trail markers with an image of a track chair. Another 0.3 mile of level trail takes you to a junction. Turn right and follow the trail downhill, passing a couple of ranch buildings till you reach an old ranch road. Cross the road onto a two-track lane. This lane heads north and then loops around south again. Parts of it are difficult to make out, but if you follow the trail markers you will soon reach a meadow. Enter the meadow and turn left to return to the ranch road.

Hike uphill on the same track you descended, but when you reach the junction, keep straight and follow this trail back to the trailhead.
