Snow starts after Talapus, but the trail is well traveled and easy to follow. Spikes and poles not required - at least for the next day or two.

Shout out to the folks who cleaned the trailhead toilet and stocked it with toilet paper.

Nice hike. Soft ground so my knees are happy. It's a very suitable hike for falls.

A gorgeous day to be out for a quick, easy afternoon hike. There were three spaces in the lot at 11.30am on a sunny Tuesday. There's some fall colour on the slopes above Talapus Lake and here and there in the understorey. Too many people hiking with unleashed dogs (I saw four). There was a volunteer forestry service man having a word with a couple of the owners, but I doubt it has a lasting effect on the behaviour of the entitled...

There are a few sections of road with deep potholes to negotiate (mainly just before and just after the split with the Mason Lake Rd) but most of it's in pretty good condition and any car will easily make it. I have a low front spoiler and it only scraped a bit once. The previously reported giant hole where the pavement ends has been filled.

I did this as a quick day hike. It took me about two hours to complete (I didn't take breaks and just spent a few minutes at each lake). It was a great hike to stretch the legs and enjoy the fall weather.

I arrived at the trailhead shortly after 8:00 AM and there were just a handful of other cars in the lot. The toilet at the trailhead was in good shape and was stocked with toilet paper. The trail itself was well-maintained and easy to navigate. There was a strong breeze at times during the hike. Parts of the trail were protected from the wind, but other parts were pretty chilly so it was good to have layers. The lakes were both beautiful. I'd definitely like to come back to spend the night at some point.

All-in-all this was a nice, fairly easy hike. I did encounter a group with several dogs, all off-leash. The dogs ran far ahead of their owners and up to me while I was trying to cross some rocks on the trail. They were very friendly, but caused me to have to stop and recalibrate my steps on the rocks as they were rubbing on my legs and stepping on my feet. Most of the owners were off trail looking at the lake. One person from the group was on the side of trail watching the dogs, but made no attempt to call the dogs back or manage them in any way. Aside from that minor annoyance, the hike was great.

Arrived around 9:30AM on a quasi holiday Monday and there were only a couple of cars in the parking lot. Beautiful fall colors at Talapus Lake and a bit of snow up at Ollalie but it was melting fast. Trail was in good condition to the lakes. We did the loop around Ollalie lake via the Pratt Lake trail and the boot path to connect was a bit overgrown and there were some puncheons that had seen better days but it was easy to follow.
