Not enough snow to snowshoe, but my grandchildren declared our hike on this easy trail ""like walking in a Christmas card."" The snow was only a few inches deep and powdery. It was cold, only 22º when we were there. It was an easy trail for these beginning hikers, and they thought the forest was beautiful. We saw lots of animal tracks: deer, rabbits, and elk, but no wildlife. Access this trail from Highway 97 on FS 9716 a Swauk Pass. From the snow park it is about 1/4 mile walk up a snowy road to the trailhead.

This trail is a 2 3/4 miles loop at the top of Blewett Pass. There are interpretive signs along the way. It was a beautiful, clear fall day and the larch were beautiful! There are a few ups and downs but more like stroll than a hike after our 4th of July Creek hike the day before!

My son Ben (age 4) and I enjoyed a sunny evening hike on this guided trail. Ben liked finding the numbered posts. Some of these are now missing or down. The trail is suitable for children, though the educational materials will be lost on younger kids (its about silviculture). At 3 miles, this loop is more than a nature walk, and there are moderate ups and downs. Twinflower runs rampant here - I never saw so much of it blooming in one place. Sedum and paintbrush were also blooming. This area has been logged, though there are still some larger trees standing, including grand fir, larch, ponderosa pine, and even a white pine. The trail is 1/2 mile on FR 9716 south of Blewett Pass (the former Swauk Pass, not Old Blewett Pass).
