Visitors who will park in the Lewis River Recreation Area will need a permit starting June 15. Make your reservation on Recreation.gov starting May 20. Visitors can reserve a parking ticket on Recreation.gov.
This trail is just a mile long, but it's a workout — extremely steep, you drop through an old-growth forest to reach the Lewis River. Speed is aptly named — it provides quick access to the river and, by wading the river, a connection with the Lewis River Trail.
But use caution! The ford is only possible in the late summer when water levels are low.
