Arrived on a Saturday around noon, with plenty of parking at the trail head this time of year. It was a brisk Fall day, only 36 degrees. Ten degrees cooler than Lake Crescent only 30 minutes away, so bring a warm jacket. Also a towel to wipe off the spray from the Falls. Very nice short relatively easy day hike.

A great hike if you want to a) stretch your legs just a bit before hitting the hot springs or b) use this as a gateway hike to get non-hikers hooked. A well-maintained trail with a nice visual payoff at the end. We saw other hikers every couple of minutes, but I can imagine it’s absolutely mobbed at peak season.

Large parking lot at the end of Sol Duc Road and privies available. Considering its accessibility, this trail is very, very crowded. Folks of all ages, abilities, and shoe types along this short and easy trail. We were out and back in about forty minutes. Well worth the trek if you are in the area.

This hike was great. Well-marked. Be careful of rocks and tree roots in path.

Beware of: trail conditions

I left Olympia at 5:30 this morning and made it to the trailhead around 9:10 or so. There were a good number of cars in the parking lot, but based on the number of people I saw at the falls they may have been backpacking into High Divide or 7 Lakes Basin. By the time I took pictures and admired the amazing falls,10-15 other people had shown up. I saw quite a few groups heading in on the way back to my car.

There is a tree that has fallen over the trail not too far from the falls. It's easy enough to step over, but the kiddos might have a little trouble with it. (I've included a picture.) Based on the ONP website, they already know about the tree, so hopefully it will be taken care of soon! Otherwise the trail is in great condition, although there are some area that can get rocky and root-y. Bugs weren't too bad until I got to the falls. I had sprayed myself with Off before leaving the car, so they mostly left me alone.
