Gray Wolf Trail Crew worked this trail today, brushing, rebenching tread, and clearing a big rootball that was hanging over the trail about 2.2 miles in, past the slide. We improved the tread on the slide, but it's still a hazardous area.
The trail is now free of blowdowns, and with the exception of the slide, is in good shape.

Gorgeous day for this hike. We really lucked out on having it not rain. Fair amount of snow the entire length of the trail. Several trees across as well. One that was challenging to navigate. Microspikes advisable. The view from the top was stunning as we popped out above the clouds.
PSA on the washout zone though: the freeze/thaw of the past few days had made this super hazardous. We got caught in a really scary bout of rock fall that took my leg out from under me and almost sent me sliding down to the bottom. I had to use my poles as crutches to agonizingly hobble the two miles out. Then a trip to the ER. Brutal ending to an otherwise lovely day. So grateful that I didn’t take that same rock to the head. Please be careful, folks.

This was a Gray Wolf trail crew work party. The crew tackled the following impediments on the trail: narrow tread and overgrowing brush on the first/lower part of the trail, narrow tread in the slide area, trees down on the trail, and water-damaged creek crossings, and narrow tread plus overgrowing brush above the slide area.
We got to all the trees across the trail (see previous trip report by our scouts) plus the other above-mentioned tasks. It was a cool, foggy day but with a hint of blue sky at the top of the mountain. The trail is now much more accessible but care still needs to be taken in the slide area particularly by those with children or stability concerns. Trekking poles will certainly help.

This was a scouting hike for Gray Wolf Trail Crew. We had fine weather, and found the trail to be in pretty good shape. Not much brush. There are 15 logs that are either leaning or down across the trail, but none pose significant obstacles. The photos for this trip report aren't scenic, they're just records of logs that require clearing.
The slide wasn't too difficult to negotiate, but it could stand a bit of treadwork to make it a bit safer. It's sketchy enough that some hikers might decide that the prudent choice is to turn back at this point.

It's been a while since this trail had a trip report, so here's one to bring it up to date. First off, this trail needs maintenance. A chainsaw crew is needed for a day or so to remove about a dozen large trees across the trail. Also, some intrepid and agile trail maintainers need to repair the trail where it crosses the landslide as some new slides have obliterated portions of the tread. Finally, a couple of the creek crossings have washed out and need some rock work. Nevertheless, all of the trees and creeks and the landslide were crossed without too much hassle or hazard. Lots of mushrooms were out and about, but there were zero other hikers on this sunny Monday. Only the birds kept me company. The view from the top was spectacular and well worth the climb.
