Head for Pack Forest and Hugo Peak when you want some exercise but don't have a full day to commit as it is only 10 minutes from Eatonville. The trail is well maintained and there is a hiking register at the top. It's also a great hike for kids when they're ready to stretch their legs.
Accessible year-round, this is an all-weather, year-round hike, though it's worth noting that the area is open to hunting during the season. Climb 800 feet in about two and a quarter miles, being aware of the low spots that can get muddy in the winter, despite the boardwalks through these areas.
Most of the hike is through forest and a previously logged out area that offers a nice view. With several sections of step-ups, the trail is a good workout, and though it crosses a couple access roads throughout Pack Forest, it is well-marked and easy to follow.
At the top, end in a small meadow with a couple of benches and a trail register. There is a peeking view of the valley below, which makes this a nice spot for lunch.
Pack Forest has several trails that can be done in addition to of Hugo Peak. Grab a trail map when you arrive to plan your trip. During the week, the admin buildings in Pack Forest are staffed and you can get maps from the staff there.
