The section of trail that heads west from the Morse Creek Trailhead (just east of Port Angeles on Highway 101) is open again after being closed for a bit of work.
I didn't actually go check out the work, so can't report on what it looks like. I was just curious if there were salmon under the bridge — and there are! They were quite active. Depending upon the light, but might be easy to see them from the bridge or it might be easier to follow the dirt path under the bridge that leads to the side of the creek nearest the parking lot.
Either way, you can see the salmon with a 1-2 minute walk.

We arrived at the east trailhead of the Spruce Railroad Trail with the plan to bike to Highway 101 using both the Spruce Railroad Trail and Olympic Discovery Trail . After an early start before, 8:00 am , made a photo stop at Devils Cove. Afterwards the trail entered the first tunnel. It has a bend in it and was very dark without head lamps. We walked our bikes and had no problem feeling our way through. The rest of the trail has great views of the Lake Crescent and the second tunnel is short and is easy to see our way. After seeing a dozen or so groups walking the first part of the trail and passing just one cyclist on the latter part the route was empty of trai users. After a short discussion my partner. We decided to practice our clothes free lifestyle. We pedalled the rest of the way to the Mueller Peak trailhead in the all together. There is an outhouse, a kiosk and a picnic table at the junction with a spur trail leading to Highway 101. We continued on another mile and turned around. A short distance east of the Mueller Peak trailhead is a grassy meadow that is a great place to get an overall tan. On way back we took the spur trail to the highway and headed to down hill to Fairholme. This is the best option to get to Fairholme, there is no connector trial from ODT to the Noth Shore road . After a leisurely lunch break we rode pass Camp David Jr to a steep gated service road to the ODT. On the the way back to the east trailhead we stopped for a brief swim in the lake. The traffic is much heavier in the afternoon and on the first three miles of the route. Saw only two cyclists and two hikers on the ODT leg of the trip. I highly recommend this trip hiking or biking. A peaceful forest, beautiful lake a smooth trail with lots of shade. A great journey for a hot day.
