This 4-mile section of a much longer trail travels alongside Naneum Creek through a burn area filled with delightful baby Ponderosa pines and the occasional larch.
From Ken Wilcox Horse Camp at Haney Meadows, the trail descends around 500 feet over 1.5 miles to the Naneum Meadows trail junction.
From here, the trail passes through the meadows until it meets with the Naneum Meadows trail, where you can bear left and continue a short way to meet the Howard Creek trail or Forest Road 350. You can also take the Naneum Meadows trail, which leads to some other trail and road options.
WTA Pro Tip: Taking Naneum Creek trail to Elk Trap Springs trail over to Table Mountain Trail and Tronsen Head makes for an excellent, easy-going loop of about 4.5 miles and 1,000 feet of gain and loss. This hike is particularly lovely in October while the larches are peaking.
