The trail was in great condition. It’s an easy hike, but is almost fully exposed. Even with bug spray, my wife had horseflies following her and was bitten by one that drew blood. They were by far our biggest obstacle. It was pretty busy, but parking at 9am wasn’t an issue. Any vehicle can get to the trailhead at Sunrise Visitor Center.

After travel delays including roadwork, unexpected traffic, slow drivers and an even slower elk crossing, I arrived at the White River entrance with exactly 3 minutes to spare before the reservation requirements went into effect at 7am. The parking lot was about a third full when I arrived at Sunrise, bathrooms were open but in rough shape, thankfully they were being cleaned and restocked when I returned to my car around 10:45am, but that also shunted the ladies temporarily to the pit toilets. The Sunrise lot was almost full when I left around 11am.

This report is only for frozen lake, turned around as I had 2 little ones ages 3 and 5 who were able to make it all the way to the lake! Mountain was completely socked in when we arrived at 9:20 and then 15 mins later you could see almost the entire mountain. I feel like with my luck that almost never happens, so it was a wonderful surprise. Saw a decent amount of wildlife - Clark’s nutcracker, pine Siskin, ravens, marmots, ground squirrels, deer. No bear or goats but we heard from those who saw them. Some wonderful wildflowers as well. As a mom solo hiking with 2 littles - this was ambitious but so worth it. Did some watercolor painting on the trail meadow adjacent (not in the meadow but on the wide part of the trail) and it was such a treat for both me and the kids! Overall an absolutely wonderful day. Such a fan of the timed reservations… would be a total madhouse if they weren’t in place.

Excellent early morning hike to Fremont Lookout today. We arrived to Sunrise at 4:45 and were able to watch Tahoma light up as we hiked Sourdough Ridge, then caught up with the mountain goats in the meadow across from Frozen Lake. From the lake to the lookout we mostly had the trail to ourselves. The lookout was also quiet, with just a handful of others enjoying the views. Of course the trail was busier on the way down with others getting out on the trails. We also saw marmots and pikas, and the wildflowers were in full bloom. When we arrived back to Sunrise it was 8:30 AM and the parking lot was about 2/3 full.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! Wildflowers, goats, marmots, and 'munks were out for the world to see. Slightly overcast, but to our favor! A bit of litter on the trail... Pack it in, pack it out y'all!!
A delightful trail. Bring plenty of water to account for altitude if you're an airsick lowlander (and for those who understand that reference, both times I've done this trail it's exactly how I picture Roshar).
