Walked the Meadowbrook Farm trails Friday morning.  Parking at the main lot next to the event building off Boalch Ave NW is free and relatively plentiful.  No public restrooms at this location.  The trails remain a mix of paved, boardwalk, gravel and open grass fields/boot track and are all in good condition other than the field areas are getting grownup/brushy as expected at this time of year.  Water-resistant shoes would be helpful in the field trails if it’s damp out just from all the wet grass.

The two big draws to this little walk are views and wildlife and neither disappointed today.  Super nice views up the valley and over to Mt Si plus lots and lots of big elk out munching in the fields this morning.  Standard cautionary reminder - do not get close to or approach the elk.  All the pics here were taken with a telephoto lens.  Other interesting wildlife today included at least two pair of red trail hawk, (one individual had a very distinctive extra screechy call,) and a half dozen or so big turkey vultures both hanging out in trees and soaring high above in the thermals.  There are a couple of decent options to extend this walk as well; 1) quick road walk down Boalch Ave and under the bridge to the new-ish big Tollgate Farm property or 2) head east either through the dog park or trails just south over to the Snoqualmie Valley Trail.

We walked the longest loop, which included sections that cut right through the grass fields. Sometimes the footpath is hard to see, but if you take a picture of the map near the interpretive center, you should be fine. There were some rocky parts, tall grass, and some bumpy dirty sections. Be careful of some spiky weeds (I don't know what they're called) if hiking in shorts. The trail is flat the entire way. There are paved loops, unmaintained loops, and something in between.

We went around mid-day, and saw a large elk herd. Most of the trail was in the sun. A great view of what I believe is Little Si.

Plenty of parking, and I saw 3 different spots in the farm, though park near the interpretive center if you want the map of the trails.

Overall, I think it's a hike worth going to, especially because there are many other great hikes nearby if this one doesn't fit your taste.

Quick walk around the Meadowbrook Farm trails Sunday morning.  Parking is free and relatively plentiful with a couple additional gravel turnouts beyond the main paved lot.  No restrooms available.  The trails remain a combination of gravel and dirt/grass around the historic farm property.  There is a bit of mud but otherwise no real issues.  No elk out today but there were a ton of fresh elk tracks, particularly in the pinch point areas between meadows so they were probably there last night or earlier this morning.  Lots of nice views up the Snoqualmie valley and east to Mt Si.

The Trail

  • The total distance of the trails behind the community is just under three miles. One can repeat the route once or twice for more exercise.

My Route

  1. Hike through Three Forks Dog Park and cross Snoqualmie Valley Trail to access the natural area south of Snoqualmie River.
  2. Walk through the short paths near the water (brushier and muddier farther east).
  3. Return to the valley and go clockwise through Meadowbrook Farm before returning to the parking at the park.

Highlights

  • Good view of Meadowbrook Slough via the bridge to the dog park entrance
  • Mount Si dominated the landscape at every turn
  • Decent vistas of Mount Washington and Rattlesnake Mountain south of Interstate 90

Lowlights

  • Snoqualmie River shore was inaccessible due to high water level around the sandbars
  • Eroded embankment along the portion of the trail closest to the river

So the beginning of the hike was alright, paved road until you got to some foot bridges, according to the trail map, it wanted us to cut through fields along a tree line, there was no discernible path, in addition to not being intuitive.

By time my wife and I realized this, we were already a quarter mile past where this “path” was. We decided to backtrack, but realized it was not feasible to make it through. So we went back on our original path and followed until the path turned to gravel.

The gravel path continued for the 2nd 1/3rd of the hike until it devolved into just a barely visible game trail that led back. Full of thistles and even on the paved/gravel path there was nothing but feces. I’m pretty sure this is supposed to be a horseback trail as opposed to hiking/walking. Beautiful scenery, but couldn’t appreciate it much due to trying to avoid horse poop every 5ft.
