So this trail starts at the parking lot. Just so everyone knows, the access road that has the gate never opens, you just walk up it. I walked up to the waterfall, it was beautiful, but to be honest, that is about the only great thing about this hike. We decided to keep hiking up to the look out. Within a mile you hike about 800 feet. Extremely steep, and when you get to the look out, prepare to be disapponted. You can see a sliver of Lake Whatcom and all the trees in the world. There really is no look out. Great training trail though. Wasn't what I thought it would be.

I do not typically write trip reports but have decided to start doing so for a couple reasons; to track where I have been and to share the experience from the point of a view of a novice hiker. I belong to a group of women who are trying to get out and walk/hike each week and we would all consider ourselves leisure hikers. This trailhead was easy to find using the directions on this site and there was plenty of parking (weekday) and a bathroom. Today we walked the Lower Lookout Trail and the Waterfall Loop Trail. The steepest sections were the beginning of the walk on the service road and the section leading up to the waterfall. I just plug along at my own pace! This is a very enjoyable trail, fairly wide in most areas and meanders through a nice section of forest. A few little ups and down, a little muddy in a few places and only one place where I lost my footing (near where the Waterfall Loop trail connects back to the service road). The waterfall is worth the effort to reach it. The sections of trail we hiked were perfect for a group like us and would be great for families. We intend to come back and hike the Lookout Loop trail next time.

A great quick hike just outside of the city. The lower trail is lovely and easy to hike. Right now though, there is water over the trail but nothing that can't be walked around. The upper loop trail is pretty and teaming with birds. Due note that the loop might be short in distance, but it has a significant elevation gain so be ready for a workout. Definitely a dog friendly trail. It's on leash but saw plenty of dogs off leash and having a blast. Go soon too, because the normally tranquil falls are raging right now with all the early snow melt!

Nice hike. We logged 6.76 miles round trip from parking lot to lookout and back. Expected the lookout to be more open with a better view; only saw the top third of Baker and a bit of foothill. Nevertheless, a pleasant day hike. Saw bleeding hearts and foxgloves. Only encountered three other parties -- very pleasant quiet day.

Fun loop less than 10 miles out of Bellingham. It was a beautiful sunny day, and only saw 2 other sets of hikers. Parking is right off the main road, so no bumpy dirt road to manuever. There were other spurs off this trail, so easy to make this more than a 3 mile hike.
