I'm back at Loganberry Lane!  Our projects for today were brushing, drain maintenance and installation of an informational sign.  Weather was mostly cloudy with light rain at times.

-ALERT- A yellow jacket nest was reported in the northern section of the trail by a volunteer, who was stung a couple times as he was working on a drain along the side of the trail.  Stay alert when hiking along that area, especially those who have dogs that like to wander off trail.

Also, trash was noted along the trail.  Please pack out your trash.

Happy trails!

My partner and I stopped here on the way between Tacoma and Stanwood to check out the new trail at Kasch Park.

The system here is lovely, tucked behind the soccer fields where we could hear what sounded like a riotous soccer game while we walked among the trees.

The WTA boardwalk looks really nice, and all the dogs we saw were well-behaved. There are pretty nice bathrooms at the trailhead as well!

I have hiked at Loganberry Lane a few times because a friend and I were working together to create a digital scavenger hunt that tells the story of how WTA staff and volunteers built this trail.

Want to play?

It's fun and free! Either go to WTA Tour of Loganberry Lane or use your phone's native QR code scanner to open this in the Adventure Lab® mobile app.

It will take you to 10 locations around Loganberry Lane so you can learn how the boardwalk was built, how many feet of split-rail fences were made on site, and many other fun facts.

Walked the recently updated trails at Loganberry Lane at Kasch park Sunday morning in the sunshine.  Parking is free and plentiful in the main lots on the east side of the park.  Full restrooms were open and in good condition next to the children's play area.  Note, the actual start of the trail is tucked in behind the picnic structure next to the restrooms so it’s a bit easy to miss.  Also note, the trail map at the park shows north as left, not up, which threw me for a bit of a loop.

Bad news -

  1. Many of the new trail signs/structures have already been significantly tagged/vandalized.
  2. Of the folks we encountered, nearly all had dogs and every single one was off leash with several being aggressive and uncontrollable by their humans
  3. The large parking lots had attracted larger groups of youths with vehicles, some completely great, others clearly involved in some less than legal activity.

Good news -

  1.  You can really see all the work put into the updated tread and drainage plus the awesome big new elevated walkway.  Super kudos, (love a good drainage!)
  2. The area has some really nice summer bird song right now
  3. There are a couple nice wetland areas that are largely viewable from the trail.
  4. Good restrooms right near the trailhead.

So... over all a bit of a mixed bag.  But all that said, it is super nice to see the investment and effort put into the local community.  Just crossing my fingers maybe with increased usage by locals some of the current negative aspects will lessen.

My 1st WTA work party of 2025!  The weather was quite chilly and there was some frost/ice on parts of the trail as we headed to the work site that morning.  The main tasks of the day were continue construction of puncheon boardwalk and creating a new reroute trail.  I spent most of the day helping create the new reroute trail.  We did lots of digging, brushing and sawing to establish a 10ft wide corridor along the new trail route.  We also decommissioned some of the social trails near the new trail.  I was pretty sore the next day!  Looking forward to seeing the progress of this trail when I return on another work party on 2/20.  Happy trails!
