A quiet little state park with a mixture of shoreline, meadows, woods, and bogs, perfect for a late-afternoon winter adventure. Whidbey certainly has larger and better-developed parks, but these lesser-known spaces are often less-crowded, offering peaceful solitude as you walk along the shore or through the trees (other than the noise of Navy jets regularly flying overhead). The trails are in fairly good shape with some mud and exposed roots as the only real obstacles. The incline from the beach or parking area to the back meadows isn't a challenge but adds to the workout you'll receive. The trails offer a few different options, giving you a choice depending on how much time you have and how long you want to be out. Along the way I witnessed heron, gulls, and a family of deer grazing in the grass. If the sky is clear and you can time it right, the view of the sunset over the Olympics is breathtaking.

Note: When I was there, the main parking area and all amenities were closed, so parking was limited to the beach overview lot.

This is a really nice walk, with a really nice beach. Trails are in great condition. We did a little over 2 miles starting at the trailhead on Crosby Rd. We looped around, went down to the beach and then came back to finish the loop.

Parked at the Moyer’s Loop trailhead on Crosby Rd and walked the through trail down to Joseph Whidbey State Park and the beach. The trail was very level and well maintained, and while a bit wet in some areas, it was not muddy anywhere even after a rainstorm this morning. Lots of different types of views all in one trail! You pass through gassy fields, standard PNW lush green forest, and ocean/beach front with mountain views in the background.
Trail is both dog and kid friendly. There are a couple of spots with trash cans at the two parking lots to make disposal of doggy bags more convenient.

There are a lot of loops and splits in the trail system, but the cell service is also good in this area, and a quick look at Google Maps proved very accurate if you need to orient yourself.

There are well-spaced split wood benches along all the trail loops, so I would feel comfortable bringing someone with less mobility here for a nature walk with ample rest opportunities.

Trail was good. I haven’t been here in a long time. The weather was perfect, blue skies and slight breeze. The only down side would be the trail map really isn’t much help nor are the guide posts. We walked farther than planned but a great workout on a gorgeous day.

the main parking lot is closed, so we parked at the gravel parking area at the corner of crosby road. The trail was in great shape, a few muddy places and the boardwalks were a little slick. The bathroom at the main parking lot was unlocked. We went down to the beach where we saw an eagle eating lunch and then took the trail along the beach where we came up under the tree the eagle was in. Very cool to see.
