Cloudy but overall a very nice hike to the top. A little wet in places. A few maple trees still have yellow leaves. Mushrooms and lichen a plenty. Definitely recommend for a fun adventure day!
we stopped at Schoolhouse Park to play after. Nice playground and has a portapotty.

Sweet hike! Go when clouds are high or absent so you can enjoy the semi-panoramic view from the top. Parking at the TH for 4-5 cars plus a bike rack if you arrived on two wheels. Two overflow parking areas are a short walk down the shoulder-less road. Fortunately, traffic is light most of the time. No bathroom at the TH but there are two clean sanicans at the community park you probably passed on your way there, as well as at the General Store.
Mostly a forest walk. Mushrooms are starting to show themselves. Less than 600' elevation gain takes you to a broad summit with many benches from which to enjoy the views. Glad I brought my binoculars. Friendly locals shared what it's like to live part or full-time on the island.
The ferry holds about 20 cars. While in line on the Anacortes side, a ferry worker walked by to take our payment just before loading. No payment on the the return. We stopped at the General Store for a snack. Lots of seating inside and out and a full menu on the days when the kitchen is open (which is not Monday).

A very nice hike. On the easy side of moderate. The cloud ceiling was low when we went. When the sky is clear the vistas would be even more amazing. The ferry ride is a hoot in an open air ferry. Be sure to use the bathroom at the Anacortes ferry terminal… no facilities at the trail head, except for trees.

Today we did a morning island excursion to hike Guemes Mountain. We walked onto the Guemes Island ferry at 0830. The weather was cool and crisp with clouds and areas of sun poking through, it was beautiful! The ferry ride is a quick 5 minutes and then we were off. Walked the 2 miles on S. Shore Rd to the trailhead. The road walk is quiet and lovely mostly along the channel. You can see or hear the water and nearby shipyards the whole way. Once at the trailhead we entered the forest and headed up. It’s 1.2 miles to the top on very well made trail through forest. The views at the top of the other islands and surrounding areas are so pretty! On a day like today with clouds and sun the contrast and moving weather was fun to watch! After a quick snack and drink we went back to the ferry terminal and caught the 1100 back to Anacortes. We had a great lunch at Gere-a-deli in Anacortes. We did a total of just over 6 miles in about 2 hours. Definitely a good morning outside.
