Beware of: trail conditions

Definitely recommend poles, hardy gaiters, good boots, and really good raingear!  My socks were damp but not soaked as a result.

Very impressive trail but it needs some help!  Throughout the day, it felt like alternatively walking in a waterfall, splashing through puddles formed by failed water bars, and daintily testing rotten bridges.  About ½ inch of snow starting at Little Greider.  Probably more this weekend.

Spectacular trees and moss and solitude.  A classic NW day in the best way.

Rainy day, no one else on the trail.

Update on the creek crossing next to the waterfall: as mentioned, trail work is going on there. Today most of the rocks to walk across it were underwater, so it was not possible to cross without shoes getting wet. Poles were helpful for the creek crossings.

The second half (steeper part) of the trail, between the Spada lake turnoff and Greider lakes, had significant amounts of water running down it. Around 80% of this section was underwater, and it was not always possible to avoid walking in it. Some of the constructed stairs have eroded a bit.

The re-route around downed trees is well marked, as mentioned previously.

Be prepared to get wet socks/feet on this hike!

No snow on the ground at all.

Relatively chill hike without any crowds. Drive to trailhead should not be a problem for any car. The WTA directions must be old since the distance from the kiosk to the trailhead is about 5.1 miles, rather than 7.1.  As we hiked along Spada Lake, it looks like one could have driven further at one point since there is a large parking area and trail head sign about 2 miles in.

The trail along Spada lake is relatively flat with gentle ups and downs. Multiple small creek crossings as well as several large bridges. There is a creek crossing (with a waterfall!) where there is trail work in progress. This section is still a bit steep but better than it used to be. The little reflection ponds loop is a pleasant detour around the reflections pond along the Boulder Lake trail and worth the short detour.

As indicated in the trail description, the elevation gain occurs after the turn off from Spada Lake. The trail has a good grade so the elevation gain in not onerous but one needs to watch for roots and rocks. Water runs along the trail nearer the lakes but never an issue. The snow and wet areas from previous trip reports are gone but conditions change daily.  Nice large camp sites along both Little and Big Greider Lakes. Take care aroung the log puncheons near the lake. They are slippery from the rain/moss and would benefit from grooves in the logs to prevent slippage. Only one large under/over blow down (two trees next to each other) as well as a slightly steep re-route. As previously mentioned in other trip reports, the distance to the Big Greider Lake is closer to 10 miles RT

Road had a few small snow patches but easy going. Lots of water coming down trail but fairly easy to navigate puddles/crossings. Fresh snow at top between lakes but slushy and no need for traction. Left rain gear on log at Big Greider, please let me know if you found them. Swm4vr@gmail.com

What a great hike, as others have commented, this one reads like it is a throw away hike, but no it isn't.  It was pretty wet, after a couple of day of rain, so the trail was muddy and there were streams running down it in many places, so shoe or boot selection is important this time of year.  The hike is easy for the first half, then up 2000 ft.  My gps said 10 miles round trip, that was to the end of the trail at the campsites at Big Greider.  The views at the two lakes were amazing.  There were no real bad trail obstacles, one tree you have to slide under and the place where there was a big blowdown reported in much earlier trip reports.  DNR crews have cleaned the trail up and made a small reroute for the downed tree, marked with tape.  All in all it was steep but pretty easy getting to the top.  I also saw them (DNR) heading towards Boulder lake trail so that should be open soon.
