This trail was once the site of an old mining community, but with few artifacts left, it is now more often used as part of a 4.85 mile loop with the Pacific Crest Trail and the Bear Gap Trail. Fog City is aptly named, since during inclement weather the area can be foggy. But the steep trail connects with the Pacific Crest Trail and often will clear up.
The trail departs from the Morse Creek trailhead. Walk the road for a half mile to where the trail departs on the right. Begin climbing immediately, and after 0.2 miles, arrive at a junction. A left here will take you to Bear Gap, stay to the right.
It's a 0.8 mile, steep and switchbacked climb to the Pacific Crest Trail. At the junction, hikers can turn left and hike a mile, then descend on the Bear Gap trail. Otherwise, you can return the way you came.
