From the parking area, stop to check out the interpretive signage describing the role of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in building many of the notable structures in the area, including the structure in the group camp nearby.
Then head south on a small trail that borders an open meadow before turning right and climbing some stairs. The paved trail swings around to the left and then enters a picnic area of the group camp, bringing you around to the edge of a viewing platform that offers a similar, if a few dozen feet higher — view of the river.
The trail wends through the group campsite, which may or may not be open. If it is, respect any campers and avoid walking through occupied sites.
The trail then cuts through the central part of the campground, heading downhill towards a grassy meadow blocked by a gate. This meadow is home to the walk-in campsites in this area, again, please be aware of any campers and avoid walking through their sites.
Take a set of stone stairs down to the same level as the parking area, returning to the car by way of the paved ramp and stairs you took to get into the campground.
