Hiking Chinese Reconciliation Park

This is a small park with a meandering trail system. Most of the trail is gravel, and takes you across a bridge, through a gazebo, and past various art installations. There are many benches, especially along the waterfront, that are great places to pause and look at the view. On any day, the waterfront alone can be a nice view, and on a clear day, you can see the Olympic mountains.

Chinese Reconciliation Park is intended to preserve the memory of Tacoma's expulsion of its Chinese population in 1885, and serve as a model of reconciliation for other communities around the world that have experienced similar events. As such, you will find posted signage throughout detailing the history of the Chinese Exclusion Act and Chinese-Americans in Tacoma.

Wheelchair Accessibility

Some of this trail is accessible. There are stairs, and some areas of the trail that are not as wide, but parts of the park include paved and gravel trails that are flat or close to flat.

Getting There

From I-5 heading South, take exit 133 and keep left for I-705 North. Take the exit for Schuster Pkwy. Take a slight left to get onto Ruston Way. You will pass the park on your right, and then make a U-turn to get back to the parking lot.

There are toilets just a little ways down along Ruston Way from the park. Toilets are managed by Parks Tacoma, and are open year-round from 9 a.m. to dusk.
