I started from the new Trailhead parking area off S. Camano Ridge Road. It’s marked with a brown & white sign onto a short gravel drive leading to the parking area where there’s room for about 10 cars. I was the only car there, nice change for a trail on a weekend!
The trail starts at the large information sign & leads up a wide path with a slight grade for about 1/3 mile. I then took the trail to the left (Perimeter Trail) & followed it along the wide path lined with alders. It eventually turns into a well maintained forested trail. If you continue to stay to the left at the junctions, you’ll circle around the perimeter & back to the parking lot, but I like to take the trail marked Can Ku down to the old Trailhead & then back up for some elevation gain. I then return the way I came & round out about 5 miles & 500’ gain.
Happy hiking!

Starting from the east end, we looped around, keeping left, through forest that varies from wispy alders to advanced second growth Douglas fir. We went all the way to the west end and back. The understory was lush with trillium blooming. The weather was sunny and warm. There weren't many people hiking here. The east end has a decent gravel parking area. No port-a-potty at either end.
