This was a great experience but the mud was pretty bad. I went in my waterproof hiking boots and waterproof Gators. I didn't have a problem with my boots coming off but my friends who just had on mud boots ran into many problems. There isn't a set trail that we could see, it's more of make your own way to the old structures.

The word for today's exploration is MUD. Be prepared with tall boots or galoshes unless you really enjoy mud in your shoes. The directions are good, Google Maps will get you there, too. We arrived at the parking around a little after 8am this morning, and a gentlemen was leaving to go retrieve better footwear. He inquired about our boots, and we said, "Yep, we can armed with sturdy shoes." It was quite an adventure tromping through the alternating soggy trail and muddy trail, but honestly it's not the "worst" conditions we've ever encountered on a trail; I'm looking at you, Goat Lake, with your fun "Is it the trail or a small creek?" game. :-) We meandered around for quite a while - it seems like there are extensive trails beyond the ghost town - and by the time we left around 10:30am, about 5 more cars showed up. It was nice to have the area all to ourselves for that long. Cool remnants. Love these kinds of places. FWIW: Really wish someone would organize a clean up party, though. There is SO MUCH trash in the area and along the roads to the parking area. Pretty disappointing.

It was a rainy day which made for a muddy hike. There were some fallen trees/branches to walk over. Wear waterproof shoes if going in fall. Walking over the bridge on the left side of road was fun. Most of our hike was on the left side where the cars can park. We only ran into two other people on the road for our visit. Very secluded. Nice exploring hike.

This was my first time coming here, but it might just be the best time to do this trail! The lack of underbrush in the winter made it incredibly easy to find the different sets of ruins. It seems like people have trouble finding their way around in the summer, but I had no problems spotting the vault, parking area, and any other human-made landmarks within the forest. I won't give too much away because it ruins the adventure, but keep heading west from the parking area and you should be fine. Also, the trail seemed like it would usually be very muddy, but it was frozen over and easy to traverse today. And obviously, no bugs in the winter. The overgrown ruins make for a pretty otherworldly experience and are a photographers dream! I recommend coming in the winter to orient yourself and maybe stopping back sometime in the summer if you get the chance.

A good sunny winter day for a hike. After crossing the small wooden bridge, bear to the right for the ruins. It is always interesting to see mother nature reclaim her territory from man. The mill building and a smokestack are the most prominent remains from the old logging town. The trails are well worn and easy to follow. The ground was frozen which, in my opinion, is better than what appears to be a normally muddy trail.
