Beware of: trail conditions

part of trail North towards Museum is under water, will need to remove shoes when crossing to get back to parking area. All in all a nice walk thru the woods and along the Wenatchee River which is running fast. Saw some kayakers and 2 groups on rafts. Busy day on a beautiful afternoon.

Blackbird Island is a nice walk in Leavenworth. The trails are groomed and marked and the surrounding is beautiful.

Leavenworth is a prime location for a weekend of adventure and fun. It has cultural diversity, hikes, food and drinks. I try to visit Leavenworth every so often as they're always freshening up the area with new attractions.

Hiking the Enchantments is an easy hike. It's on mostly paved trail with a lot of wilderness surrounding you to incapsulate you with Mother Nature. The river can be heard rushing near by and depending on the season, you can watch salmon make their run. I'm sure this area would be infested with bear if it weren't a popular spot for people to wander around.

There isn't much elevation gain, it's short and depending on the weather it should be a pretty decent walk-about. During the summer it's crowded with baby strollers, runners and weekenders so if you don't like crowds, come up during the week in the spring or fall when the crowds might be less.

Be safe!

Day one of my journey to completing every hike in Washington. Today I started with the place that I spent the most time as a child, Blackbird Island. March 1st and its snowing on me as I walk the trail. Its still early in the year and the snow hasn't melted all the way off of the trail, its what you call mash potato snow. Very hard to walk in, feels like you are not going anywhere fast. During the spring and summer this trail is fabulous for all ages. Walk, run, bike along the Wenatchee River water front in Leavenworth. Spring time and early the water is extremely high and fast from the mountain snow melting. Be careful of water conditions during that time of year, its very dangerous and several get injured. During the summer once the river has lowered, you will find several beachy areas to relax on in the sun. This trail is very crowded during the weekends in the summer, its overflown with tourist. To get the most enjoyment out of this location, visit it during the week and early in the mornings.
