Trip Report
Blackbird Island - Waterfront Park — Tuesday, Mar. 1, 2016
Central Cascades > Leavenworth Area
Day one of my journey to completing every hike in Washington. Today I started with the place that I spent the most time as a child, Blackbird Island. March 1st and its snowing on me as I walk the trail. Its still early in the year and the snow hasn't melted all the way off of the trail, its what you call mash potato snow. Very hard to walk in, feels like you are not going anywhere fast.
During the spring and summer this trail is fabulous for all ages. Walk, run, bike along the Wenatchee River water front in Leavenworth. Spring time and early the water is extremely high and fast from the mountain snow melting. Be careful of water conditions during that time of year, its very dangerous and several get injured. During the summer once the river has lowered, you will find several beachy areas to relax on in the sun. This trail is very crowded during the weekends in the summer, its overflown with tourist. To get the most enjoyment out of this location, visit it during the week and early in the mornings.
