When we went there was alot of mud. And I personally did think the view was worth the drive.

The trail was well maintained and a good hike for younger kids. There were some muddy/swampy spots due to recent rain so we didn’t make it to the big tree but, we will definitely go again in the summer!

I took my 7 year old niece out for a morning leg stretcher to explore the forest and find out if this trail really does have the big trees. We determined that It most definitely does!  Trail is in great shape, though the bridge across the creek is slanted at about 30 degrees and in danger of falling off the bank at one end due to erosion.  There were signs stating “no dogs allowed” at the trailhead, so that likely keeps a lot of folks away. It was a nice little escape, as we saw no one else the hour we were on the trail.  This is a great hike if you have little ones, or for anyone just wanting to enjoy nature without the crowds.

Great short hike with the kids. Fresh air, green trees, cold water!  The big tree was a bit of a disappointment, but the kids thought it was great.  The bridge and access to the creek was far more interesting.

Trail condition: Damp. Muddy in places. Very passable. Half the kids wore tennis shoes, and did just fine (the van needs to be cleaned now :'(

The trail is steep in several places as it descends from the parking lot to the creek, and again up and over a hill to get to the big tree.  Good knees recommended.

Highly recommend as a local hike - probably not worth a long commute to visit.  Also would be a GREAT place to stretch your legs if you're doing a long drive to or from the NW coast area, as the trail is just a few minutes from the HWY, and no fee is required for parking/using the trail.

ACCESS NOTE: The access to the camp/trail head from the road is NOT marked well.... there is a small white and blue hanging sign at the road which is illegible while driving at the speed limit.  I have included a Google Map picture of the driveway as seen if you are traveling north bound. We drove past the driveway twice before making a successful approach.

Happy Trails!
