I dont often rate trails low, any hike is a good hike, but this one is pretty poorly maintained. And to be fair I was riding a mountain bike (allowed) and not hiking from Maple Falls to Glacier. The first couple of miles are actually not bad until the trail crosses Mt Baker Hwy. At this point the trail becomes very overgrown and difficult to navigate with blackberries and some nettles . Although partly based on an old railroad grade it was definetly not in typical "rails to trails" condition with the surface being an overgrown single track. It also moslty parralles mount baker highway after crossing it which adds the bonus of traffic noise. It got bad enought that we never made it to Glacier as our legs were getting torn up with all the overgrowth. Hopefully in the future this trail which is planned to run from Mt Baker Ski Resort to the Bellingham Bay can be improved but at this point I couldnt recommend it.

This was a little family outing on a sunny day to see the refurbished pier. We'd been here before when the pier was still fenced off and looked decrepit, but now it's really a nice addition to the park. The trails down from the Little Squalicum Park parking lot and to the pier have been widened and graded. The pier itself has been redone with a metal grid surface and fenced railing. It looks like lighting will be added as well. There's also great access to the beach, which is dog friendly. For those wanting more exercise you can continue east, all the way to Mt. Baker!

This is dog, friend and kiddo heaven. A new trail has recently opened up that cuts off the long loop from the parking lot to the beach. The recent improvements have brought in new interests and people to scope it out. I love that you can walk down the beach shore and find a secluded spot even when the park is full. There are beautiful rocks and lots of driftwood.

Walked the Bay to Baker trail from Squalicum Creek Park west to the water early Saturday morning. Parking at Squalicum is free and relatively plentiful. The big news on the route currently is the large redevelopment of the Little Squalicum Creek estuary closing access of some of the trails on the west end including all access up to Marine Dr/Eldrige Dr (very similar to what was done at Carkeek Park in the Seattle area.) Otherwise trails are in good shape with no issues. The route follows the abandoned rail line through neighborhoods and active industrial areas down to Bellingham Bay at Little Squalicum Creek. Super nice views of the bay, the big railroad bridge and the huge Lehigh Cement pier. There is a popular off-leash area north of Marine Dr there as well if fido needs some exercise.

For Earth Day we wanted to get out local and do some trash pick up. The Bay to Baker Trail runs through Cornwall Park. In addition to the B2B trail, the park has 1.5 miles of its own that circle the park, crosses Squalicum Creek twice (though one of the bridges is currently closed) and climbs across a high ridge. There's a small set of falls on the creek, nice old growth trees, and a few small rocky balds as well. Magnolias are blooming. It was obvious that the trails had recently been cleared as evidenced by the piles of branches. They were also pretty much devoid of trash though we managed to find three quarters of a bag off in the brush. It also offers a playground and spray park, frisbee golf, and tennis and pickle ball courts. Our future goal is to come back and bike this entire segment of the B2B from Little Squalicum Park to Sunset Pond.
