Overview
Volunteers, thank you for another amazing year. This event is part of our Volunteer Appreciation Week. If you’ve ever volunteered with WTA (or would like to), this event is for you!
Come join us for a family friendly hike on the newly completed Trail 182 at Mount Spokane State Park! We were still in the process of putting the finishing touches on this trail during Volunteer Appreciation Week 2024, so it will be great to return to enjoy all of the hard work volunteers invested in the creation of this new trail for Mount Spokane State Park!
About the Area
Mt Spokane is laced with a 100 mile trail system that is popular with hikers, bikers and equestrians in the summer and with skiers and snowshoers in the winter. The trail system runs from the base of the mountain to the summit and covers varied ecosystems ranging from deep pine and cedar forests to open meadows. Wildlife including deer, moose, the occasional bear and cougar can be found on the slopes of this mountain.
What to Expect
We'll have fun, work hard enjoy the hard work of WTA volunteers that went into the making of this trail, and make a difference celebrate our 2025 trail work season! No experience is necessary.
Project Description
Family friendly and moderate pace, although this hike does include some elevation gain.
Hiking Information
The hike will be approximately 6.5 miles. The terrain is considered hilly. We will hike the trail as an out-and-back.
Schedule
- 8:30 AM: Be ready to sign in and meet the group, rain or shine
- 8:35 AM: Gather for introductions and a safety briefing/orientation to Trail 182 and Mount Spokane State Park, then begin the hike.
- 10:00 AM: It's candy time!
- 12:00 PM: Pack a lunch/snacks to enjoy along the way.
- Throughout: we'll stop periodically to relate some stories about the creation of this trail: from layout in a snowstorm, multiple site visits, discovering a timber poaching operation, Mary losing her backpack in The Bermuda Triangle, to Mr. Moose versus Bryan's beautiful trail section, there are many great stories about building this trail!
- 1:30PM: The hike will last no later than 1:30pm, although may finish up earlier than that.

Getting to WTA work parties can involve travel on rough, unpaved roads in areas without cellular service and without street addresses that can be accurately used by navigation devices. Unless specifically noted otherwise, routes can generally be traveled by all types of vehicles. Volunteers with limited experience driving on unpaved mountain roads may want to allow extra time, beyond what is recommended in the directions above, to get to the meeting location.
