Mothers Day is coming, take her on a stroll along Azalea Way, the azaleas are in full gorgeous bloom! A riot of color as we used to say in the nursery business. We took the light rail down to SeaTac for a dry run on getting to the airport, then came back up and got off at the UW, walked up to the fountain, ate lunch there, then over the Montlake bridge to the Arboretum. The train is easy, just get your Orca card and go.

Excellent other than path to marsh island was blocked by mud and flooding.

Went for a short spin at the arboretum to check out the rhododendrons. Not a lot of rhody blooms yet, but there were great skunk cabbage, cherry blossoms, and even some trillium!

Theres also a very cool art installation on Azalea Way consisting of many glass planes that represent cedar plant cells. I haven't been to the arboretum in a while and this art installation is new to me and very cool.

We hiked Azalea Way in a loop, pausing under the art and enjoyed a quiet, gray day before heading home to chill for the rest of the weekend.

We simply rambled about on the many trails, enjoying the blooms and the big trees.

The cherry blossoms are so lovely 😄

I got to the parking lot near the playfield around 3:45 and it was completely full (with other cars besides myself trying to find spots). I drove out of the arboretum and parked on a street near the park, then walked over to the arboretum instead.

Walked up and down Azalea Way and there were honestly not nearly as many folks as I expected (especially given how many cars there were in the lot), and the blossoms looked beautiful.

We saw petals flying off the trees in the wind, so now is the time to go see them!
