I took time this afternoon to explore the ghost town of Moncton, or at least what was left of it with my mom. We got there around 2pm and spent a couple hours where we managed to completely circumnavigate the shore of Rattlesnake Pond (as I call it when it's as low as this). The ground was quite dry as long as you didn't venture too close to the water, where it was still soft and wet. Aside from the few ruins that are still left (I only spotted a fireplace and a foundation) most of the interest lay in the numerous stumps (with bathtub rings), the view up to Rattlesnake Ledge (took pics of the people on it with my zoom camera) and a lone hawk that circled about overhead.
Overall it's a pretty neat place to visit when the lake is really low, but honestly it's best combined with a hike up to the ledge or a visit to the Cedar River Watershed visitor's center (by itself worth a visit).
