This is a lovely trail, just challenging enough to remind you your outside doing something, long enough to make the drive worth it but not too long for a day hike, and the historical aspect is really cool, the lime kiln is much more impressive than I thought it would be, and the river access is a nice treat to soak your feet for a few minutes before the return trip

Always a good one on a wet day! Our 1sr, 2nd and 3rd choice hikes were in the red flag area for extreme fire danger and dry T storms, so on to plan D. The trail is in great shape, the extensive drainage at the muddy spots past the kiln that the WTA work parties put in last year are working, there is a lot less mud there now, and some of the rotten logs are off trail. Even tho the trail was also brushed out last year, there are still sections of overgrown foliage, but not so bad that it will hinder your hike. Blackberries are encroaching on the trail in the open section, but the fruit is ripe for the picking, so that's something. The river is quite low right now, the creeks barely wet and we could see some artifacts that I had not seen on previous hikes with higher water levels. Look for the Tom and Oz bypass trail, we once met both on a previous hike, they were some of the original trail advocates for this, and now are they part of the history here? There is a loo, in useable shape, I hope it gets service before the long weekend. BYOTP. #hikeathon. Fundraiser for wta for this and other trails. You can help, give.wta.org/muledeer2025 or go to the hikeathon link on the website, then donate and scroll down to Linda Roe. I still have some outdoor themed mug rugs to give away!

I really enjoy this hike. Beautiful foliage, lots of shade, close by. It’s a great place to pick up and just go if you’re feeling like getting out of the house. The first half of the hike is pretty easy and very pet friendly. The lime kiln itself is a very cool part of the town’s history.

Not much to add—a couple areas of erosion, though I think if you can get there you'll be fine. The trail is getting overgrown in some parts, making it tough to move fast. I was glad I had long pants on.
There are a couple downed trees and small areas of disrepair that require decent mobility. Past the lime kiln, there was a stretch with a lot of mud, but on average it's not bad.
Enjoyable experience with nice access to the river at the end, but less ideal than I'd hoped for a bit of jogging.
