Trip Report

Perry Creek, Stillaguamish Peak — Friday, Jul. 2, 1999

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
The Perry Creek trail is really scenic with all the waterfalls. One of them I'd rate ****. You walk about 1/4 mile to see it at all angles. Bring a telephoto, it's way across the valley. There are a couple snow patches before the Perry Creek falls. After crossing the creek, the snow is more frequent. However, if you are observant, you can follow the trail quite a ways, and you'll find quite a bit of bare ground en route. I veered straight uphill at the right-turning switchback at 4300'. My goal was Stillaguamish Peak. I summitted something, but due to low clouds (and I forgot my altimeter) it was difficult to know if it was the peak. Since there were no trampled paths on the bare summit, I assume it wasn't the peak. Thus, I claim first ascent and hereby name this peak ""Not Stilly, silly! Peak"". Kinda rolls on the tongue... hope it makes the next revision of the USGS map! [Online Editor's note: Last I was up there, there was an easily found summit register. If you crossed a small (10 foot pass) with a steep gully and then climbed up approx 200 feet of steep terrain, you probably were there. If not, you were somewhere else. Is that helpfull']
