The trail up to Rachel Lake
was its usual rooted/rocky staircase. But the weather was fine and everything looked lush from all the rain we've been having. The lake looked beautiful, but the real pleasure for me on this hike is the trail continuing upwards and then to the left to Rampart Lakes. Since there was so much snow this year the lakes were larger than I have seen them in past years. We wandered as far as the last lake towards the ridge and then decided not to try to climb it since the afternoon was getting late and we knew we had to climb down that long ""staircase"" on the way out. The bugs are still awful!
