Split through intermittent clouds on the paved road to the trailhead, no privy available. Trail conditions were good, no blowdowns, just some slightly muddy patches, lots of up and down, no snow/ice, perfectly fine for my sneakers. Trail navigation while following the WTA hike description can be confusing. I previewed the WTA instructions at home, so I had traced the path on my GPS app before we started. This proved helpful during the hike itself, and GPS kept us on the correct path through multiple turns.
First two summits (Little Round Top, Sugar Cube) are forested without views. Took the short spur trail to the steep banks of otherwise hidden Whistle Lake (totally worth it). By the time we summited Mt Erie, the lingering low-hanging clouds were dissipating, and we glimpsed fine views of Lake Campbell below. Last summit at Sugarloaf boasted expansive views across the strait toward San Juan Islands (the island themselves still shrouded in clouds), saved the best for last!
