Trip Report

Quartz Creek/Lake Blethen — Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
Trail Obfuscation

I had plans to head up to Lake Blethen today, but today was not my day. When I came to the first gully you need to cross, I decided to turn around. I found the rope, but my fear of heights got the best of me today. I scouted around a bit, looking for an alternative with less of a falling hazard, but I didn't find one to my liking.

However, I do have a critical piece of information to share. There is work being done on the road. On the one hand, this is great as it makes for smooth sailing. On the other hand, the work crew has pushed a bunch of trees and other debris onto the old road bed, thus obscuring the way. I walked up the road a little and then scrambled down from this road onto the one I wanted to be on. I thought climbing over the mess of trees and rubble would be more difficult.

Did you find this trip report helpful?

There's actually a privately owned parcel up this valley. The road work is apparently being done by the owner. Not sure what his intentions are but I bet it's not good. Likely gonna log it?

I'm the owner. There is no plan to clear cut the property. Based on forestry experts, the forest may get thinned to increase the forest health. The road building is primarily just for access.

I bought this to ensure the forest wasn't ruined/harmed.

Trip report from ALW Hiker June 14, 2022 has a comment from the owner. So far they will not deny access and only thin the timber. No cutting for a profit. Be nice if they cleared the road leading to the old log bridge. I don't see spending all that money for a regraded road to just thin 160 acres. Well, time will tell.

The road to lake blethen will be cleared, the debris is just as they work.

Apologies for the temporary mess.
