A friend and I went up this way to get away from it all. We slept two nights at Canyon Creek Site 2 which is absolutely beautiful. We were surrounded by creeks. The first day we hiked to the campsite which is about 3 miles in total, some of the trails are covered in water but no major problems, didn't even require waterproof boots. Our second day we climbed the last mile up to Deer Lake. There was minimal snow on the trail until you get just passed the sign for the ranger station. Neither of us were prepared to walk through deep snow so that is where we stopped. The lake is sill partially frozen but its beautiful up there and worth the hike out. We saw lots of squirrels, three frogs, and a salamander. I haven't seem a salamander is years. Canyon Creek campsites 1 and 2 can have fires, but number 3 can not because of the elevation. All three sites are clearly marked so don't worry about missing them if you are headed up this way for the night.
