WOW is all I can say.
Ok, I'll say a little more. This place is unreal and I would highly recommend you take advantage of this awesome, magical, place if you are thinking about it. My boyfriend and I headed out this past (very hot!) weekend and were treated to a clear, beautiful, evening and morning at the high hut.
The drive was about 1.5 hrs from Seattle to the main turn off, and since we drive a very low to the ground sedan, about an hour to drive the extra 7ish miles down the bumpy (rocky!) road to the upper sno park.
The trail itself is steep and from the upper sno park, a little more than 3 miles. We started later in the afternoon to avoid some of the 95 degree heat as there is not much shade cover. Like others have said, this road is used by the volunteers to drive up to the hut so the trail itself is quite similar to the road you drove in on.
It took us about 90 min to the top with frequent water breaks. And once you get to the top...WOW. Rainier is right in your face, St. Helens behind you, Adams to the right, gorgeous foothills all around you. This place is magical. We are so thankful to the MTTA!!!!
Tips: bring a hammock if you have one, bug spray (bugs around dusk were pretty bad), and sunscreen for the hike up. Stay up/wake up for the sunset and sunrise, they were incredible - and make sure to bring beverages to enjoy during the sunset! Also please make sure to carry your trash out, as we took trash from the previous dwellers who left theirs behind.
