Cedar Falls Snowshoe — Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016
North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20
After xCountry skiing and snowshoeing some of the riverside trails in Mazama for a couple days, we needed to climb. Cedar Falls, off Highway 20, appears to be the closest "accessible" hiking trail to Mazama. Trouble is plowing along 20 stops more than 2 miles east of the entrance to Cedar Falls. From there to the trailhead is a distance we don't know because we never made it. So we obviously didn't make it to the falls. But "walking/hiking" Highway 20 in regular hiking boots, with micro spikes, on surface groomed by snowmobiles, turned out to be a surprisingly nice workout. And we caught amazing views of the surrounding mountains. It took us about two hours to hike the two miles up; it was less than 1 hour coming back.
