Trip Report
Sand Lake Snowshoe — Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014
South Cascades > White Pass/Cowlitz River Valley
What a delightful surprise it was to be welcomed to White Pass with sunny skies and warm temperatures! The pitter-patter of snow melting off the trees filled the forest, interrupted occasionally sound of snow crashing from tree branches to the forest floor. The path was pretty well established since the last snowfall and was easy to follow all the way to sand lake.
At the lake I laid out my raincoat with my fleece on top to make an insulated seating area, enjoyed a cup of peppermint tea and some lunch. After an hour of simply enjoying the winter sounds, I laid my head back and dozed for a good forty minutes! :) I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day!
