Trip Report

War Creek — Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025

North Cascades > Methow/Sawtooth

I went to deliver some treats to the BCRT that was working on the War Creek trail. They were supposed to be camped at the cabin so that was my goal. The road is still closed at the junction due to the washouts. The 1.5 mile road walk is a breeze. The trail proper was okay. There were a few trees to go under/over/around. The vegetation is severely encroaching in places, so much so that I could not see the trail. I definitely recommend long pants, which is what I wore. Even with that, my legs got banged and scratched. The fireweed was past blooming and the fluffy seeds were blowing everywhere and covered everything.

I made it to the cabin 6.5 miles and 4hr 37min after starting. I was able to deliver the treats and ended up staying the night with them instead of pushing on. I headed out the next morning. The BCRT should have everything cleared to the cabin. They were also pushing past to logout the trail to the pass. However, there is a lot of trees to cut. And more will come down every season. I, in fact, heard and saw a tree come down during my hike in. The trail still needs a lot of TLC to be completely open.
