Tatoosh Lookout — Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025

South Cascades > White Pass/Cowlitz River Valley
Mt Rainier and Wild Flowers

The road to the South trailhead is passable with a few rough places. Upon arrival I noticed there were no other vehicles at the  the trailhead. I figured most people doing this trip start at the North trailhead. The way to the lookout site starts gradually at first and then steepens quite a bit until the meadows. A collapsed cabin in about a mile in made a good rest stop. Up in the meadows is a small spring that didn't look very appealing. The trail continues to the summit of Tatoosh Ridge without any water source untill the lake below the north side of the peak. I contoured along the ridge to a flat area without vegetation to set up camp. I recommend to bring lots of water if you are starting at the south trailhead. Because of the high temperature and the lack of fellow hikers  I imeadily removed my clothes and put them in my pack for the rest of the trip. Being nude in nature is a great stress reliever. The feeling  one gets after sheds their clothes is so natural. The sweat from your body evaporates so easily. You feel much better being naked than in sweaty clothes. The next day had the trail to myself again and did the entire trip au naturel. Tatoosh is incredibly beautiful and well worth your time.
