Latourell Falls — Wednesday, Jun. 18, 2025

Southwest Washington > Columbia River Gorge - OR
Latourell lower falls.

What???  No hike report on Latourell falls since 2021???  Well, time to remedy that!  Latourell falls is a nice alternative to Multnomah Falls (which requires a timed-entry permit much of the time) with plenty of parking when we arrived.  The trail is in fine shape, and well used.  Despite the WTA hike description claiming a 3.0 mile loop hike, we found that even though we dropped down into the lower park area on the outskirts of the village of Latourell, the loop distance is only 2.3 miles.  The trail between the top of the lower falls and the base of the upper falls is a nice stroll through lowland, wet-side forest with a strong sampling of the usual lowland, wet-side trees (think large cedars) and vegetation (devils club, anybody?).

Summary:  Nice walk, good trail, with TWO nice falls.  The lower one, a classic plunge waterfall for the lower and a cascade waterfall for the upper (what do you expect in the Cascades??).

Latourell upper falls.
