My friend and I did a 2 night, 3 day trek from Oil City to Third Beach. It offered great views and a decent challenge for her first overnight trip. We camped at Mosquito Creek on the beach and at Strawberry Point, both of which I would do again.
Error with Green Trails Olympic Coast Map: Hiking north from Mosquito Creek to Toleak Point, the Green Trails map indicates the rope to go overland is halfway through a cove past a large rock. The rope is actually located at least .25 miles sooner right before the rock. You do not need to, nor should you ross over the large rock (and high tide could definitely trap you, even though that is not indicated). The sign indicating the overland trail is overgrown and hard to see as well which did not help the situation. So learn from our 30+ minutes of confused walking/searching. Please see the photo for a rough "fix" of the map.
New pit toilet at Toleak: We ran into 3 rangers on 06/16 and they were planning on digging a new privy on the 17th!
There were several areas of blow downs in the overland sections closer to Mosquito creek. It required a bit of route finding, I would highly recommend having a detailed map on this hike. The stream crossings were simple in terms of water flow/level. Overall, going south to north worked well. I do think the overland sections are not marked as well in this direction, but if you have patience and a keen eye, you can figure it out.
