We headed out today in search of cacti and were pleased to find some beautiful clusters of blooms. It seems they aren’t quite at peak yet so more to come. . The balsamroot were plentiful though at the other side of prime. Phlox and lupine still seem to be emerging into spring here. We came across a number of two horned lizards soaking up the sun. The birds sang to us as we walked- meadowlark, sagebrush sparrow, and spotted towhee. We startled up what seemed to be a few grouse as well. Through the trail is mostly a road, it’s worth a trip to enjoy the colorful variety of flowers, particularly the cacti.

Wonderful flower pics! What was your trailhead/starting point? What route did you take?

We started where the WTA link takes you but decided that we prefer starting at the first trailhead right after the wind farm. That’s where we started last time we were there and it’s more interesting. I hope that helps!
