I really enjoy this trail, so we decided to head up to see how the road conditions were, whether we could get to the TH, and where the snow started. The good news: the road is clear of snow all the way to the TH! (Bathroom is still closed.) There are the usual potholes to dodge and a few larger tree trunks off to the side of the road, so in general a higher clearance vehicle should be able to make it, no problem.
The trail is in good condition with small patches of snow after about 0.5mi, then after the first big turn in the trail (after the first bridge), the snow begins in earnest. We were able to proceed without snowshoes or spikes to the next water crossing (no bridge), spent a bit of time walking in runoff before encountering more snow where snowshoes are best. Since our group didn't all have snowshoes and we had a time crunch anyway, we opted to turn back at that point, roughly 1.65mi into the trail. I expect with no new storms, this will melt out over the next few weeks pretty quickly.
Still a great day to be out on a trail all by ourselves!
