Light snow when we started at 11am and the trail had spots of compact ice and light snow. We put on micro spikes at 1.5 miles in. At 4 miles we started crossing the avalanche shoot which was solid snow cover making the trail difficult to follow. Without alpine gear and skill, this section is challenging. We turned back at this point.
It was a beautiful and challenging hike. The old growth and snow covered trees and creek crossings were lovely.
