Attempted Navaho Peak in Teanaway on 5/12/24.
Started at 5:45am. Zero snow until 4900ft when it starts to be annoying across the trail in small patches. Put gaiters on for the eventual post holing. There is one tricky snow bridge that’s about to collapse around 4960ft. All of the snowmelt turned the trail into a river, expect wet feet. Snow starts in earnest around 5500ft and it was soft. I wasn’t expecting it to be so tough to continue without snowshoes but I guess there hasn’t been a freeze….learning moment for me. Continued up to the pass until I got concerned with the potential for injury from busting through the snow, would rather not hyperextend a knee this early in the season. Turned around at 8:45am.
Snowshoes recommended until someone puts in a boot pack or the snow melts. Heading down I saw a few people with snowshoes and others with skis.
No snow on the road at all. Have fun!
