Camas Meadows, Camas Mountain — Wednesday, Apr. 24, 2024

Central Cascades > Blewett Pass

Super nice trip up to the summit of Camas Mountain. Camas Meadows is still closed, and  entry to the meadows is only by permit per the DNR sign posted at the trailhead. I parked at the trailhead for the meadows, and rode a bike up 1/4 mile to a yellow gate off to the left. This abandoned road was muddy and had a few trees across the overgrown road. I ditched the bike shortly thereafter, and hiked up to the summit. The decommissioned road is mostly grass with a single track path in the middle.

The views start to open up where the road takes a sharp turn to the right. This road is labeled C1200 on the caltopo map below. See pic 3.  Quite a few balsam root are blooming, along with a few other wildflowers. This road gets a bit brushy towards the end, and then stops at the steep drop off to the north. It is now cross country up to the rocky summit. The north side of Camas Mountain is a drop off, with cool looking rock formations.

Fun little trip with some great views. Very pretty. Would be a great spot for a new trail!!

4.7 miles RT with 676 ft elevation gain

Upper section of Road C1200
